— Local student named to dean's list

Stephanie A. Miller of Rogers has been named to the dean's list at Missouri State University for the summer semester.

For undergraduate students, criteria include enrollment in at least six credit hours during the summer semester and at least a 3.50 grade point average.

Local residents among Harding University graduates

The following area residents were among the nearly 250 graduates who received diplomas in commencement exercises at Harding University July 25:

◊Fred Ginn of Rogers received the Bachelor of Arts degree in leadership and management.

◊Kathy Reynolds of Rogers received the Master of Science degree in counseling.

◊Elizabeth Thompson of Lowell received the Master of Science degree in physician assistant studies.

◊Lindsay Welsher of Rogers received the Master of Education degree in reading.

The ceremonies were held in Benson Auditorium with Dr. Mike Ireland, pulpit minister of West Side Church of Christ in Searcy and associate professor of Bible at the University, as the featured speaker.

President David B. Burks presented the diploma to all graduates.

RAs named for 2009-10

Thirteen students have been selected to serve as Resident

Assistants for the 2009-10 school year at Sebastian Commons Apartments at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.

New RAs will be Marquette Anderson of Prairie Grove, Brittany Dawson of Clarksville, Stephanie Miner of Hatfield, Cameron Terrell of Little Rock, Alicia Weiburg of Farmington and Lauren Zimmerman of Harrison.

Joining the new RAs will be seven returning RAs: Cassandra Arnhart of Rogers, Charity Bilyeu of Greenwood, Ashley Hill of Spiro, Okla., Clint Johnson of Poteau, Okla., Jeremy Moore of Charleston, Rebecca Wheeley of Rogers and Brock Wilson of Poteau, Okla.

The six new RAs were chosen from a field of 30 applicants through a process of a

plication and interview. Duties of the resident assistants include building community, monitoring activities at the Commons, serving in an oncall duty rotation, and helping promote and maintain an environment that is safe and conducive to learning.

Sebastian Commons originally opened in fall 2003, providing one-, two- and fourbedroom apartments. An addition was opened in fall 2007,providing the capacity to house an extra 180 students.

The gated complex offers its own parking spaces, as well as paid utilities, free high-speed wireless Internet, expanded basic cable services, study room and laundry room, as well as outdoor activity areas.

RAs are under the direction of Dave Pinson of Fort Smith, director of housing and residential life, and Brennan Will of Roland, Sebastian Commons housing assistant.

Murphy to attend ASMSA

Caroline Murphy of Rogers has been invited to attend the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts in Hot Springs as part of the class of 2011.

ASMSA, a campus of the University of Arkansas system, is a public, residential high school for academically advanced juniors and seniors.

While attending ASMSA, students participate in a rigorous academic program designed to educate tomorrow's leaders through instruction, laboratory experiences and technology.

Murphy is the daughter of Larry and Debbie Murphy.
