The Rogers Public Library will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans’ Day.
The Children’s Department staff will not have their regularly scheduled story times in the library Nov. 16 through Nov. 24, but will be doing outreach programs in area schools.
The Rogers Public Library will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, in observance of Thanksgiving.
Teens
Monday Night Bookies Book Club begins at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 9. Boys and girls in grades three through seven are invited to share excellent books, a great discussion and snacks. Parents, guardians or other adult family members are encouraged to participate. The book to be discussed is The Get Rich Club, by Dan Gutman.
Tween Program begins at 2 p.m. Nov. 14. Join Ms. Kathleen for a fun and creative program just for tweens in grades five through seven or ages 10 to 13. Today’s activity is an acrylic painting on canvas suitable for framing. Create your own unique painting. Registration is limited to 15 and is required for this program.

Saturday Story Time begins at 2 p.m. Nov. 7. This week’s theme will feature places where people work. This time is for the whole family with story and craft. Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Children’s Library will present an Anne of Green Gables movie marathon Nov. 28. Anne of Green Gables [Rated G] begins at 10 a.m. The second movie, Anne of Green Gables: the Sequel, will begin at noon, and Anne of Green Gables: the Continuing Story will begin at 2 p.m.
Saturday Cinema begins at 2 p.m. Nov. 21. This week’s movie is Hotel for Dogs [Rating: PG. Run Time: 100 min.] starring Emma Rogers, Jake T. Austin and Johnny Simmons and directed by Michael Grady. Foster children Andi and Bruce have been placed with a flaky couple who care more for their aspiring rock careers than their charges. Their mischievous tendencies repeatedly get them into trouble. After a close call with the local pound, the kids end up searching for Friday, their secretly adopted dog, in an abandoned old hotel where they find several other stray dogs seeking shelter. The police storm the hotel and take all the dogs to the pound. The kids attempt to rescue the dogs and it might just land them in separate group homes. Bernie, their social worker, will have to somehow convince the authorities, and perhaps a loving family, that the children were just doing what was right. Dress for Success
The Northwest Arkansas Young Professionals have teamed up with Banana Republic of the Rogers Promenade to host “Dress for Success” from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5. The evening will be an educating and fun event speaking to proper attire in the work place. All proceeds raised will go towards the NWAYP’s scholarship trust.
Banana Republic will be speaking on quintessential pieces needed for the workplace, dressing for your body type as well as how to incorporate your own style. Seasoned professionals will be available for roundtable Q&A session, and Clinique will be offering makeovers as well as providing makeup tips.
The event is located above the Great American Cookie Company in the Rogers Promenade. Refreshments and appetizers will be served with a chance to win a $50 Banana Republic gift card. Northwest Arkansas Young Professionals (NWAYP) offers professional development of members (age 21 and up) through volunteerism, social networking events and fundraisers. NWAYP promotes local businesses and other charitable organizations while working to improve the quality of life for young professionals in the region, as well as local students through the creation of a scholarship endowment fund for the benefit of two graduating high school seniors each year. KENDRICK FINCHER T-SHIRT CONTEST
Children in kindergarten through eighth grades are invited to submit a creative and original design that will be used on the front of all T-shirts to be distributed to participants in the 12 annual Kendrick Fincher Youth Run and 5K Run/Walk on May 15, 2010, in Rogers.
Finalists will be determined by the youth run committee members and the winner will be chosen through community voting. The child that has his/her design selected will have the design printed on 1,000 T-shirts and receive $100 cash. In addition, the winning child’s school Physical Education Program will receive a $50 Best Sports gift certificate.
The design can be a maximum of four colors and should be drawn on a sheet of plain white paper size 8-1/2 by 11 inches. Entry forms are available online at www.kendrickfincher.org or you may pick up a form at 812 West Cypress St., in Rogers. If you are unable to obtain an entry form, print your name, telephone number, age, grade and school on the back of your design. Children may submit as many entries as they would like; however, each entry should have their entry information on each form. The deadline is Nov. 6 and entries should be mailed to P.O. Box 1287, Rogers, AR 72757 or dropped off at the office.
