— Goblin Parade

The 25th annual Goblin Parade will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 30 in Rogers Historic District beginning in Frisco Park.

Main Street Rogers, in conjunction with downtown businesses, presents the annual Goblin Parade for the children of Rogers. Children in costume follow a planned route through downtown Rogers and “trick-or-treat” Historic District businesses along the way. Parents are encouraged to bring their small children for a fun way to celebrate Halloween. Safe and admission is free.

Howl O Ween at Murphy Dog Park

Murphy Dog Park will hold Howl O Ween at the dog park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 31. There will be prizes for best costume, scari est concept, most creative costume and owner and pet costumes.

Big Wag Bakery will sell registration tickets and all early birds will receive a ticket for the prize drawing. Tick ets may also be purchased at the gate on the day of the event. All tickets are $5.

Vendors in costume will set up and be stations for the trick and treaters where dogs can pick up everything from shampoo samples to dog cookies and toys.

The dog park is a non profit auxiliary of the Humane Society of Rogers. It is located at First and Nursery Road in East Rogers. For more information, call 631-9909.

Forester to lead tree identification tour

The Friends of Hobbs Speaker Series continues. At 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, Arkansas Forestry Commission forester and professional arborist Scott Noble will lead a tree identification tour at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area. The tour will originate at the park’s new visitor center on Highway 12 just east of the Highway 12/War Eagle Road intersection.

According to park interpreter Steve Chyrchel, “Our focus at Hobbs is education. Many of our programs are designed for and presented to elementary school children. We have however, received specific requests for adult programming. Mr. Noble’s tree identification program is designed for high school age and older. Participants will learn how to use a tree identification guide that includes the common trees found in the Eastern and Central United States. The event is open and free to the public.”

Eagle Watch Cruises to begin at Hobbs

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area’s pristine shoreline is ideal for viewing the great Bald Eagle. According to Natalie Casey, park interpreter, “We will investigate for signs of these majestic birds of prey as we tour the Van Winkle Arm, one of the last undeveloped areas of Beaver Lake.”

The first kick off tour will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 4 with Alan Bland and Casey as your guides. Tours will continue through February. Tours cost is $10 per adult and $5 per child (6-12). Pre-registration is required. Tickets must be purchased at the Hobbs State Park visitor center front desk or call 789-5000. All tours depart from Rocky Branch Recreation Area.

‘Broadway Bound’ comes to RLT

“Broadway Bound,” the third play in Neil Simon’s autobiographical trilogy, will be presented Nov. 6-8 and Nov. 12-15 at The Victory Theater in downtown Rogers. Picking up where “Brighton Beach Memoirs” and “Biloxi Blues” left off, we find Eugene and his older brother, Stanley, trying to break into the world of professional comedy writing.

Dinner theater tickets are $42 (catering by Pfeffer’s). Balcony seating is $17 for adults and $9.50 for students. Show begins at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Dinner begins one hour before the show begins.

Garden Club of Rogers

The club will have their November meeting at a new location to celebrate their 80th birthday party. The Center for Nonprofits, located 1200 W. Walnut, downstairs in the basement level. Take the elevator to basement level, go to the end of long hall and turn right onto last hall and go into the meeting room.

The meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4. The cost of the meal will be $8.25 per person, including tip and reservations are required.

The program: Arkansas Landscape History, speaker, Tom Dillard. This program will be a learning experience about gardening on the frontier and the arrival of designed landscapes during the Victorian era. This will also show the impact of the 20th Century on our gardens and landscapes.

The horticulture committee will present unusual plant types throughout the year and offer them as door prizes.

Visitors are welcome. Meetings are held the first Tuesday each month, and always, lunch reservations are required. For further informa tion on becoming a member or about making reservations that are required for lunch, call Ronna Precure at 644-9673.

Friday Duplicate Bridge Club

The club met Oct. 16 with five tables at play and the following results:

North/South: Dorothy Edwardson and Bob Walker, first; and Jeannette Johnson and Jean Rosso, second.

East/West: Margaret Rodman and Shirley Johanson, first; and Ralph Seeck and Bill Remington, second.

Preceptor Alpha Upsilon of Beta Sigma Phi

Preceptor Alpha Upsilon of the Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Callie Ockerman Oct 12. Opening Ritual was led by President Wilma Fiser with 12 members present. Minutes and treasurer reports were approved as read. Anna Welch and Kathy Spila, phone committee, reported all were contacted; publicity, Susan Shumate reported it was in the paper. Nancy Chaffee reported the Project will start at the next meeting. Vicki Lunsford, service, reminded everyone to bring large oatmeal boxes the next meeting (Marilyn Glenn will deliver).

Saving Grace organization (which assists youths, over 18, who are no longer in the foster care program) is currently unable to state their needs so we will look into supplying Christmas for the young ladies. Kathy Spila, Chery Peterson and Brenda Crawford are working on the scrapbook. Chery Peterson reported from the Year Book. Marilyn Glenn read from the Yard Stick on “Articles 5 Section 1 Membership.” Wilma Fiser is researching the Parade of Homes for the November social. The Christmas dinner will be Dec. 4 at Mannie’s, Corona Restaurant. The Walleye and Prime Rib were chosen as the entrée. The next meeting will be at Johnny Carino’s at 6:30 p.m. with Vicki Lunsford hosting.

Secret Sister gifts were distributed. Chery Peterson won the Mystery Gift. Payment for the Christmas dinner is due by Nov. 23. Dessert will be shortcake and Kathy Spila will bring the ice cream. The program was “Fun with the Wii Fit” by Callie Ockerman. Meeting was adjourned and the closing ritual and mizpah were recited.

Dress for Success

The Northwest Arkansas Young Professionals have teamed up with Banana Republic of the Rogers Promenade to host “Dress for Success” from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5. The evening will be an educating and fun event speaking to proper attire in the work place. All proceeds raised will go towards the NWAYP’s scholarship trust.

Banana Republic will be speaking on quintessential pieces needed for the workplace, dressing for your body type as well as how to incorporate your own style. Seasoned professionals will be available for roundtable Q&A session, and Clinique will be offering makeovers as well as providing makeup tips.

The event is located above the Great American Cookie Company in the Rogers Promenade. Refreshments and appetizers will be served with a chance to win a $50 Banana Republic gift card.
