A Mother's Musing: Homegrown garden gives animals last laugh
Posted: October 7, 2009 6 a.m.There's nothing like setting a table with the bounty of your own garden. On Sunday, I managed to gather two of our three children to share the crop it took me all summer to grow. We had shish-kabob featuring one slightly deformed bell pepper.
Stories of Our Lives: House on Combs

While other homes on the street faced each other across the block-long dirt lane, ours sat at the end. From the front porch, we watched every car as it headed directly for our front door.

Technology has come a long way in my lifetime
A Mother's Musing
Posted: September 16, 2009 6 a.m.I've gotten used to the idea that technology has changed dramatically in my lifetime. After all, the first computer I remember seeing took up most of a room in my old high school. But the other day I got to thinking about how technology has changed in my children's lifetime.
A life of reading
Life in the Ozarks
Posted: September 16, 2009 6 a.m.I love to read, and read about one book a week. My passion for books probably began in about the third or fourth grade. In my classroom at Southwest City, Missouri, there was a library in our room. I read every book on those shelves. Mostly the stories were about a princess in trouble that only a prince could solve. After getting the princess out of her difficulty, they would fall in love and live happily ever after. I thought life was like those fairy tales.
